General information

- Geographic location: The province is bounded by Kiên Giang to the north, Bạc Liêu to eastern north, the sea to the east and eastern south, Gulf of Thailand to the west.

- Area: 5,331.6 km2.

- Topographic features: The province has topographic feature of river delta with many rivers and channels.

- Administrative units: Include Cà Mau city and 8 districts: Thới Bình; U Minh; Trần Văn Thời; Cái Nước; Phú Tân; Đẩm Dơi; Năm Căn; Ngọc Hiển.

- Population: 1,207,000 people


- Natural resources: Marine resources: The province has the 254km coastline and an area of about 70,000 km2 fisheries. Ít also has 270,000 hectares of aquacultural area (where shrimp farming area is about 240,000 ha), reserving abundant species, Ca Mau has great potential to develop a comprehensive marine economy, especially economic fisheries. In addition, the province also has mineral resources including oil, gas and peat. In terms of oil and gas, Ca Mau sea reserving about 170 billion m3 which supports developing a number of industries using natural gas such as electricity, fertilizer manufacturing, and metallurgical industries use some other low pressure gas.

- Tourism resources: Cà Mau has Cà Mau cape, the country’s south furthest point of mainland. The natural features of the Southest Delta were the main features of the province which has many small rivers, channels lagoons and ponds. The flooded forest ecosystem here was diverse that preserves many rare animals and birds. Ca Mau has many bird gardens such as Đầm Dơi, Chà Là and thousands of birds make their nets in Ca Mau city. These are the advantages for Ca Mau to develop tourism. Other advantages for developing tourism are many attractions such as Khai Long beach, Hon Khoai Island and Hon Da Bac Island. Ca Mau also has big advantage created by the flooded forests, U Minh malaleuca forest which was recognized by UNESCO as an International biosphere reserves. 

- Human resources: The province’s number of labour force is 730,000, accounting for 60% population. The labor force working in the economy of the province was accounted for 50.83% the population and 83.56% workers in working age. The common workers were comprised of 82% labor force.Quality of labour force is limited in term of education and professional skill. There are about 110,000 skilled labourers, accounting for 18% of labour force (over 30,000 training course graduates, 15,000 professional school graduates, 6,500 college, university graduates and post graduates).


- Transportation system: Transportation infrastructure in Cà Mau is quite convenient with three transportation means. Roadway: There are two important national roadways No.1A and No. 63 running through the province. Waterway: Cà Mau has 1,886 rivers and channels with over 6,000 km long; 700 km of which can allow the circulation of over 50 ton ships. Airway: there is Ca Mau airport where flights from Ca Mau to Ho Chi Minh City operate four days per week.

- Power supply system: The national electricity grid was covered to the centers of all communes. Besides that, there is a reservered electrictiy station with the capacity of 2,100 KW. Moreover, once the Ca Mau combination construction of gas, electricity and fertilizer is completed, the electricity demand of living activities and manufacturing could be satisfied.

- Water supply system: The system inCà Mau city can supply over 10 million m3 annually. The system has been upgraded to have annual capacity of 12 million m3. An independent water plant with capacity of 12,000 m3/day is being built to supply water for Gas - Electricity - Nitrogenous fertilizer complex and for Khánh An new urban area. Other places have water supply systems with total capacity of 15,500 m3/day.

- Post and telecommunication system: the system here meets the demand of national and international communication.

- Industrial zones: Cà Mau has 4 industrial zones: Khanh An IZ, Hoa Trung IZ, Nam Can IZ, Song Doc IZ.

- Growth rate: The economy of the province develops stably. The average growth rate was about 13.7% per year in the period of 2006 to 2010.
