– Geographic location: The province is bounded by Cambodia to the north and north west, KiênGiang to the west, CầnThơ to the south, ĐồngTháp to the east.

– Area: 3,536.8 km2

– Topographic features: An Giang is one among two provinces having hills and mountains in Mekong delta. Hills and mountains are found in TịnhBiên and Tri Tôn district, in the north of the province.

– Administrative units: Include Long Xuyên city, the town of Châu Đốc and 8 districts: An Phú, Châu Phú, Châu Thành, Chợ Mới, Phú Tân, Tân Châu, Thoại Sơn, Tịnh Biên, Tri Tôn.

– Population: 2,149,200 people

Resources

– Natural resources: An Giang is one among the provinces having large cultivation land in Mekong delta. Total agriculture area is 282,000 ha, in which the paddy area accounted for more than 82%. The forest area is 21,060 ha, in which 3,800 ha is cajuput forest. The flora and fauna are quite various with many precious species. An Giang has various mineral resources such as building stone, sand, peat (in TịnhBiên and Tri Tôn districts), mineral water, iron ore etc.

– Tourism resources: An Giang has distinctive historical monuments in TứcDụp, NúiCấm – TịnhBiên, cultural remains in OcEo – ThoạiSơn, Trà Sư cajuput forest, Long Xuyên floating market, Thoai Ngoc Hau mausoleums, Ba Chua Xu shrine, Tay An pagoda, Hang pagoda, Chau Phu temple, Annually, more than 2 million visitores come to visit and enjoy the attractions of these province

– Human resources: In 2010, the number of workers working in An Giang economy was 1.27 million accouting for 59 % the population of the province. Trained labor comprised of 34%. The labor struction: 67% labor working in industry sector, 10% in construction and 23% in services.

Infrastructures

– Transportation system: Transportation infrastructures in An Giang include roadway and waterway. The roadway system is quite convenient with National highway No. 91 connecting to road No.2 of Cambodia, Laos and Thailand through TịnhBiên and VĩnhXương border gate. Waterway:Tiền and Hậu rivers are two important waterways connecting An Giang and Mekong river delta to Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. Besides, the network of grade 2, grade 3 channels allow the circulation of 50-100 ton boats. MỹThới water port has capacity of receiving over 0.5 million ton of goods per year.

– Power supply system: An Giang administrates about 100km medium voltage one phase line, 200km medium voltage 3 phase line, nearly 2,000km low voltage line and about 2,000 substation with the total capacity of 100,000 KVA. The electricity consumption is more than 1.2 billion Kwh/year used by 250 units. 

– Water system: An Giang administrates 161 water supply systems which supply water to 11 districts and towns with the total capacity of from 150m3 per day to 34,000 m3 per day

– Post and telecommunication system: Until 2010, the number of landline telephone accounts was 175,00, that of mobile subscribers was about 37,000 and that of Internet accounts was 40,000. There are 100 BTS station and 06 BSC station. 93% communes has post office which provide different telecommunication services and 53% has Internet services.

– Industrial zones: An Giang has four industrial zones which are Binh Hoa, Binh Long, Xuan To and Cau Vong. It also has three Economic zones which are Tinh Bien, Vinh Xuong and Khanh Binh.
