General information

- Geographic location: Phu Tho is located in west central sub-region of the northeast area. It is bounded by Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai provinces to the North, by Son La and Hoa Binh provinces to the West, by Ha Tay to the South and by Vinh Phuc to the East.

- Area: 3, 5281 km².

- Topographic features: The main feature is strongly partitioned topography because of its location in the end of Hoang Lien Son mountain range. Phu Tho lines in transition between high and low mountainous areas. Its altitude declines from northwest to southeast. The area of mountains and hills accounts for over 64% of the total natural area. Rivers and streams account for 4.1% of the area.

- Administrative unit: Phu Tho is divided into Viet Tri city, Phu Tho town and 11 districts: Ha Hoa, Thanh Ba, Doan Hung, Lam Thao, Yen Lap, Thanh Son, Tam Nong, Thanh Thuy, Phu Ninh, Cam Khe, Tan Son.

- Population: 1,322,100 people

Resources
- Natural resources: The province has 97,513.53 hectares of agricultural land, 148,885.67 hectares of forestry land, 22,744.94 hectared for specialize use. It also has great potentiality of materials for paper production, agricultural and forestry products, mineral such as kaolin, fenspat, limestone, mineral water, etc., enabling the province to develop mineral exploitation and processing, paper industry, porcelain, ceramic industry, production of cement and other construction materials, etc.

- Tourism: Phú Tho is ancestral land where Vietnamese began so that it preserves many historical and revolutionary places, material and intangible heritages such as Hung temple, Phung Nguyen, Son Vi and Go Mun archaeological sites. Moreover, there are many war relics like Hien Luong war zone in Ha Hoa district, Van Thang war zone in Cam Khe district, Lo river victory monument, Ho Chi Minh president memory zone in Tam Nong district. Having grandiose sceneries is also an advantage of Phu Tho, which are Ao Chau pond, God pond – Fairy stream, Ben Got – Bach Hac, Thanh Thuy hot mineral water mine, Xuan Son preserved. Phu Tho also attracts tourists for the reason of many traditional festivals like Hung temple festival, Gia Thanh festival, Au Co mother festival, Dao Xa village festival, Phet festival, Buffalo fighting festival; folk music such as Xoan Gheo, traditional performance, legends belonging to Lac Hong culture. 

- Human resources: In 2010, the percentage of people in working age was 60% (800,000 people), in which 65% was young employee and 33.5% was trained worker.
Infrustructure

- Transportation system: Convenient transportation with developed road system, railway and waterway. In terms of roads, national highway No 2, 32 and 70 run through the province while Noi Bai-Phu Tho highway, Cross-Asia road and Ho Chi Minh Road are constructing. Regarding waterway, Viet Tri river port is one of 3 largest port in the North of Vietnam, in addition, there are also Yen Mao port (in Da river), Bai Bang port (in Lo river). The 100km railway connecting Hanoi, Hai Phong, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Con Minh (China) and Van Nam (China) runs through Phu Tho.

- Power supply system: The system is stable here with national power network connected to all communes meeting domestic and production need.

- Water supply and drainage system: 70% population was supplies with standard clean water. There is a clean water factory with the total capacity of 108,000 m3/day ensuring to meet the water demand of city and towns.

- Post and telecommunication system: All post and telecommunication services of high qualitycan be found in Phu Tho and its system is connected with the national ones to ensure smooth connections nationwide and worldwide.

- Industrial zones: Phu Tho has 3 industrial zones: Trung Ha Industrial zone with the total area of 126.59 hectares in 3 communes of Hong Da, Thuong Nong and Xuan Loc; Tam Nong Industrial zone with the total area of 120 hectares in two communes of Van Luong and Co Tiet; Thuy Van Industrial zone with the total area of 323 hectares in Thuy Van commune of Viet Tri city.

- Growth rate: The average growth of GDP was 10.6% in the period of 2006-2010.

Investment attraction

Foreign direct investment (FDI): There are 112 running projects with the total registered capital of 679.5 million USD, of which 83 projects are in disbursing step with the capital of 440.5 million USD and the implemented capital of 372.8 million USD.
