General information

- Geographic location: The province is bounded by Phu Yen province to the North, by Ninh Thuan province to the South, by Dak Lak and Lam Dong provinces to the West and by the sea to the East.

- Area: 5.197 km2

- Topographic features: The province is divided into 3 main areas: mountain, plain and coastal area & island.

- Administrative units: The province consists of Nha Trang city, Cam Ranhcityand 6 districts: Diên Khánh, Khánh Vinh, Khánh Sơn Van Ninh, Cam Lam and Trường Sa island district.

- Population: 1,160,000 people

Resources

- Natural resources: The province has a great potential of seafood because the marine resource is rich with many rare seafood that can be exploited, cultured, processed then exported.The province has many types of mineral such as white sand with the reserve of 140 million ton (high SiO2 of 99.7%, Fe2O3: 9.015%); yellow sand with the reserve of 1 billion ton; imenite with the reserve of 260,000 ton with high content from 19 – 47.3kg/m3; kaolin with the reserve of 70,000 ton; granite with the reserve of 10 billion m3; mineral water with 10 mines situated from the North to the South, from the East to the West of the province; gold with the reserve of 1,000kg.

- Tourism resources: The province has many places of interest. Nha Trang bay is one the 29 most beautiful bays in the world with various islands situated along the coastal line. Ecotourism combined with traditional professional villages is one attraction of the province’s tourism. The turnover ranking the first or the second can show that Khanh Hoa is a place of great potentiality.

- Human resources: 42% Khanh Hoa population was in working age. Trained labor accounted for 25% labor force of the province. Khanh Hoa has 40 scientific and technological research units. The number of college degree holders is 20,500 and that of postgraduate degree holders was 200.

Infrastructures


- Transportation system: The system is quite complete in the province. Roadway: the national highway No. 1A runs along the province, the national highway No. 26 connects the province to Dak Lak province. Railway: 149.2 km of the North-South railway route runs along the province with Nha Trang station which is the main station situated in the city, convenient for goods and passenger transportation. Airway: Cam Rang airport is situated in the North of Cam Ranh peninsula, 30km for Nha Trang city. Waterway: the province has 3 ports: Ba Ngoi, Nha Trang and Hon Khoi, facilitating domestic and international goods transportation. In the near future, the province has a plan to construct international transit port.

- Power supply system: The province is supplied with electricity by the national 220 KV network and by local diesel generators meeting all demand for power supply of investors. All communes are supplied with electricity.

- Water supply system: Nha Trang city has a water supply plant with the capacity of 70,000m3/day. There are also water supply plants in communes, townlets meeting the demand for socio-economic development of the whole province.

- Post and telecommunication system: The system in Khanh Hoa city is quite developed. Post offices from the province centre to communes are equipped with modern technology such as microwave, optical cables, etc to ensure smooth domestic and international communication.

- Industrial zones: At present, the province has 7 industrial zones: Dac Loc IZ with the area of 32.1 hectares in Dac Loc hamlet, Vinh Phuong commune, Nha Trang city; Dien Phu IZ with the area of 43.8 hectares in Dien Phu commune, Dien Khanh district; North Hon Ong IZ with the area of 39 hectares in Phuoc Dong commune, Nha Trang city; Van Ninh IZ with the area of 150 hectares in Van Thang and Van Khanh communes, Van Ninh district; Suoi Dau IZ with the area of 151 hectares in Suoi Tien commune, Dien Khanh district; Ninh Thuy IZ with the area of 206 hectares in Ninh Thuy commune, Ninh Hoa district; North Cam Ranh North Cam RanhIZ with the area of 233 hectares in Cam Thinh Dong commune, Cam Ranh town.

- Growth rate: in the period of 2006-2010, The growth rate of GDP was 11% per year. In 2010, the average of GDP per capita was 1,480 USD.
