General information

- Geographic location: It is bounded by Binh Dinh province to the North, by Khanh Hoa province to the South, by Dak Lak and Gia Lai provinces to the West and by the sea to the East. It is 1.160km from Hanoi capital, 400km from Da Nang city, 560km from Ho Chi Minh city.

- Area: 5,060.6 km2.

- Topographic features: Topography consists of 3 types: mountain, midland, plain and coast with the inclination from the West to the East. Forests and forestry land account for three fourth of the total natural land.

- Administrative units: The province is divided into Tuy Hoà city, Sông Cầu town and 7 districts: Đồng Xuân, Tuy An, Sơn Hoà, Phú Hoà, Đông Hoà, Tây Hoà, Sông Hinh.

- Population: 863,048 people


- Natural resources: The province’s natural land area is 504,531 hectares including 124,814 hectares of agricultural land, 165, 915 hectares of forestry land, 17,363 hectares of specialized land, 4,203 hectares of residence land, 192,233 hectares of unused land. Sea resources are quite diversified with about 500 types of fish, 38 types of shrimp, 15 types of cuttlefish and others such as arca, bird’s nests, etc. The province has various mineral resources, especially diatomite (90 mil.tons), granite of different colours (54 mil.tons), fluorite (300.000 tons), iron, peat, gold mineral sand, hot mineral water, mineral water in Phu Sen, Phu Hoa district, Triem Duc and Tra O in Dong Xuan district, etc.

- Tourism resources: The province has 189 km of coastal line with many mountains running to the sea, forming many lagoons, bays with picturesque views such as Cu Mong lagoon, Xuan Dai bay, Vung Lam in Song Cau district, O Loan lagoon, Da Dia fall in Tuy An district, Vung Ro in Tuy Hoa district, etc; Beautiful beaches such as Bien Tien, Bai Mon, Bai Xep, Bai Nom, Bai Bang, Bai Tu Nham, Long Thuy and many famous stone falls such as Da Dia, Do, Dua, Yen falls.

- Human resources: In 2010, the number of people in working age was 641,000 accounted for 73.8% the population, of which there were 75.9% working in national economy. The quality of labor is improved gradually. Phu Yen now has one university which is Phu Yen University and three colleges and many vocational schools and training centres. Annually, these units train about 2,500 workers.


- Transportation system: The system is quite convenient with National highway No. 1A running along the province, connecting the province with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; National highway No. 25 and provincial road No. 645 run from Tuy Hoa to Gia Lai ,Dak Lak provinces. The province has 120km of railway routes with stations of Lai Hai, Chi Thanh, Tuy Hoa and Phu Hiep. Tuy Hoa airport has been improved to put into operation again with domestic and international flights.

- Power supply system: The province is supplied with electricity by the national 110 KV power network. All communes are supplied with electricity. The province has hydro-electricity: Hydro-electricity plant located on Hinh river with the capacity of 72 MW joined the national network. In 2004, Ba River hydro-electricity plant with the capacity of 220 MW was started to be built. EaKrong HNang hydro-electricity plant with the capacity of 66 MW is being built.

- Water supply system: The water supply plant of Tuy Hoa city with the capacity of 28,000 m3/day has been improved (Phase I with the capacity of 8,000 m3/day). It can meet the demand for water supply of Tuy Hoa city, Tuy Hoa district and Hoa Hiep industrial zone. There are water supply plants in all district centres with the total capacity of 13,000m3/day.

- Post and telecommunication system: The province’s system is developed. Post offices from the province centre to communes are equipped with modern technology such as microwave, optical cables, etc to ensure smooth domestic and international communication. The total number of telephones in use is 14,716. Post services of all types (express mail: EMS, DHL, etc) are developing fast in rural and remote areas.

- Industrial zones: The province has 3 industrial zones: Hoa Hiep IZ with the total are of 707.5 hectares in Hoa Hiep commune, Dong Hoa district; An Phu IZ with the total are of 97 hectares in situated near Tuy Hoa city; North-East of Cau river IZ with the total are of 301 hectares in Xuan Hai commune, Song Cau district.
